WonenBreburg simplifies condition assessments with IBIS4Inspectie on iPads

A deal is a deal

WonenBreburg rents out circa 30,000 residences in Tilburg, Breda and several smaller towns in the province of Brabant. This entrepreneurial corporation has devoted itself for more than a hundred years now to offering housing to people with limited opportunities on the housing market. WonenBreburg’s circa 340 employees all strive to communicate with their tenants as clearly as possible and to always honour any agreements that were made. To automate the inspection of residences – after a mutation and for the multi-year maintenance planning – as efficiently as possible, WonenBreburg implemented the IBIS-MAIN and IBIS4Inspectie software in 2009. “After having conducted condition assessments with PDAs for a couple of years, we are currently transitioning to mobile operations on iPads,” says computerisation consultant Erik Verhoeven.

Investing in app development for condition assessments

“Wherever possible, we strive to constantly improve the versatility and usability of IT solutions,” Verhoeven continues. “Until recently, our project leaders had to bring along a separate camera on their inspections and synchronise the information recorded on their PDA and the pictures they took separately. Because a tablet with an integrated camera is easier to use than a small PDA, we discussed this option with Ibis last year. The solution we desired was already largely available, but only for Microsoft Windows tablets. Because we opted for Apple iPads, we decided to invest in the development of the app for iOS. Earlier this year, two project leaders conducted a pilot with this app. Although some improvements still have to be implemented, the users are already excited about the software. The joint development process with Ibis was handled in a professional manner and in accordance with the agreements we made.”

Major benefits

“Using the IBIS4inspectie app on the iPad offers us some major benefits,” says Koen Keulemans, Plan-Based Maintenance project leader in the Existing Real Estate department at WonenBreburg. “It has become much easier and faster to retrieve an overview of inspections we need to conduct and then report the results. We no longer have to import or export inspection data at the office. Instead, we can retrieve the information we need via the cloud, while our reports are immediately available at the office after the release of each condition assessment.” “For us, it is also easier to plan and synchronise inspections via the cloud. This has also made the process less prone to errors,” says Marcelle Aerssens, a member of WonenBreburg’s operations office. “Once the results of an inspected residence or complex have been processed, we can also use IBIS-MAIN to quickly draw up a new maintenance budget.”
